Kayaking in Sweden? Try the beautiful High Coast in the North! |
|
The High Coast in northern Sweden is known for its beauty - steep, naked granite cliffs diving right down into the Baltic Sea, mixed with softer green hills, and here and there small sandy beaches in between. The High Coast is included in the list of "World Heritages" of UNESCO because of its unique geology - in no other place on Earth are the traces of the latest Ice Age so clearly visible, in the form of landlift.

There is a wide choice of kayaking routes - from potentially rough high sea kayaking outside of the islands, over calmer waters within the archipelago, to flowing down one of the two majestic rivers ("Ångermanälven" or "Indalsälven"), or enjoying an even safer and calmer ride on any of the many long, narrow lakes in the beautiful landscape. - One of the advantages of the High Coast, as compared to e. g. Norway, is that here we have virtually no tide, and no difficult currents - but the weather of course can change.
We offer kayaks for rent. We have our kayaks in the centre of beautiful Härnösand, and you can start and/or end your trip here, but if you wish we can transport you to and from other suitable starting/landing points - the latter can be adjusted to your needs, should you get further than planned - or shorter..
The area is mostly forested wilderness, but here and there you have a house or a village. The recommended form of lodging is to bring your own tent - by Swedish law, you are allowed to tent for one night anyplace, even on peoples private property (but not on their yards!), as long as you leave the place as fine as it was when you arrived. Best is to bring food for the trip (can be bought in Härnösand before take off), or you have to make sure you will pass some open shop in some village.
The area is also marvellous for sailing! If you would rather sail, see under "Other activities, links" for further directions.
Very welcome to spend a few days in this exotic environment! For more information, either mail us at
